TOKYO 2006- THE CULTURE OF CUTENESS, Part 2
Between the press interviews and in-store appearances there was very little time to shop! I was so happy when a super cool Japanese shopping magazine called “Glitter” invited me to go shopping so they could document my first experience shopping in Japan. We went to some very exclusive Gothic and Lolita shops and I was able to pick up my first Lolita dress (wide b & w stripe with black Victorian caplet) and a mini madame hat. All the girls in the shop were dressing me up like a doll and I just wanted everything. (Note to self: next time bring an empty suitcase!) We also stopped at Ash & Diamonds, the hottest Ko-Gal (ghetto fabulous J-pop style) shop, where I found the cutest sparkling plexi bag and pink metallic leather cell phone strap. The cell phone charms are bigger than the phones and girls usually have clusters of them dangling off their must-have white plastic phones that light up when someone calls. The phones are getting bigger now in Japan, after becoming so small that they were impossible to use. On our last day we spent the afternoon at Sanrio and I finally got an opportunity to hang out with Yuko Yamaguchi, the creator and illustrator of Hello Kitty. She is amazing, so creative, sweet, and funny, and has incredible style. The “Strawberry News” (official Sanrio newspaper) girls gave us a tour of Sanrio and later we met the Strawberry King himself - Mr. Tsuji, who is the creator and CEO of Sanrio. He invited us to see his room of personal treasures he has collected over the last 30 years. It was an honor to meet someone who has created a company that has influenced pop culture all over the world for more than 3 decades.

TOKYO 2006- THE CULTURE OF CUTENESS
It's Friday afternoon and we have only been back a few days from Japan. The trip to Tokyo was incredible and I completely fell in love with the city. It is a magical world, the home of Hello Kitty and a futuristic metropolis full of cuteness, great design and street fashion like no other place on earth. I picked up a few Japanese words, that I found myself using repeatedly, like “Kawaii” (which means "cute") and “Moshi Moshi” (what you say when you answer the phone). You also find yourself getting into the ritual of bowing very quickly but never feel like you are doing it exactly right. Our sweet, sparkling TT Japan team was so adorable and they greeted us on our first day with a box of “pink"-themed Japanese treats, including my favorite candy Meiji Apollo (strawberry-tipped chocolates shaped like little volcanoes). We stayed at the beautiful Park Hyatt Tokyo, best known as the “Lost In Translation” hotel. The views from our room were so incredible it was hard to believe they were real. An ocean of buildings that goes on forever, peppered with dark green parks and trees. The second night we went to the launch party at “Le Ciel Blanc,” a gorgeous party space in Shibuya. It started with a little show created by the famous Gothic Lolita stylist Yukari Sotoyama featuring doll-like girls embellished with our sparkling jewels. After a short speech to the crowd I was sweetly surprised when Hello Kitty showed up. Later there was a visit from the most famous comedian couple in Japan, Hayashiya Pe-Ka-Ko. It was an amazing night that I will truly never forget.

L.A. FASHION WEEK, part 3
Having a bit of a fashion overload, later in the week we decided to head over to Merry Karnowsky gallery to check out a group show called “HeartThrob” with some of my very favorite artists Miss Van, Mizuno Junko and Aiko Nakagawa, who are all familiar with the Fashion scene as well. Miss Van recently did a collection of clothing and accessories for Fornarina and Mizuno has been creating couture comic books for years featuring characters dressed like Lolita dolls and gothic fairytale heroines. For more pictures from the event, check out www.merrykarnowskygallery.com.
